At Transadvisory, we’re known for delivering exceptional legal services, but this year we added something else to our trophy cabinet: the Abuja Lawyers Football League Championship. What started as a way to unwind after long days in the office became an incredible season that brought our team closer and reminded us why we love what we do.
The Abuja Lawyers Football League has become a real highlight of the legal calendar in the city. It’s one of those things that makes our profession feel less formal and more human. When you’re out there on the pitch with colleagues from other firms, the usual courtroom rivalries fade away, and you’re just lawyers who love football. For our team, it became a chance to build genuine friendships across the legal community.
We went into the season without massive expectations, honestly. But something clicked early on. Our opening match against BC Lakers ended 3-0 in our favour, and suddenly everyone was paying attention. The momentum carried through to a dominant performance against Ojukwu FC, another 3-0 victory that had us believing we might have something special brewing. By the time we dispatched K.O.L FC with the same scoreline, other teams were taking notice. What made the run even more satisfying was watching the squad gel. We had everyone on board to support the chemistry was undeniable.
Then came the final on June 28th against Yusuf Ali FC. If you’ve ever been in a high-stakes legal negotiation where everything hangs in the balance, you’ll understand the atmosphere that day. We were trailing with minutes left on the clock, and it felt like all our hard work might come to nothing. That’s when our striker, who shall remain nameless but deserves all the credit, pulled off one of those moments you dream about. A perfectly timed run, a clinical finish, and suddenly we were level with seconds to minutes.
Penalties are cruel, but someone has to win. Our keeper made crucial saves, and when the final spot-kick hit the back of the net, the celebration was something else. There’s nothing quite like that feeling when months of effort pay off in one perfect moment.
The truth is, while only a couple of our staff actually laced up their boots regularly, the whole firm got behind the team. Partners were checking scores between client meetings, and the others were our loudest cheerleaders from the sidelines. It became a firm-wide effort in the best possible way.
Looking back on the season, what strikes me most is how the experience reinforced everything we value as a firm. When you’re facing a penalty shootout or a complex litigation, the fundamentals matter: preparation, composure, and trust in your team.
We’re already thinking about defending the title next year, but more than that, we’re grateful for what this experience brought to Transadvisory as a whole. The relationships built, the memories made, and the reminder that sometimes the best victories are the ones you never saw coming. That is what made this season truly special.
